Xiaomi lifted the covers off the Redmi Note 9 series early last month at an online-only launch event in India. As part of the series, the company launched the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Redmi Note 9 Pro Max, featuring Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 720G chip, a quad-camera setup, and up to 33W fast charging support. Unlike previous years, however, the company didn’t launch a regular Redmi Note 9 at the event and this led us to believe that the device would be launched at a later date. Now, an upcoming Redmi smartphone has surfaced on Chinese regulatory authority TENAA’s website, featuring a design similar to that of the Redmi Note 9 Pro (review) and Note 9 Pro Max.
The upcoming Redmi smartphone, which goes by the model number M2003J15SC, appeared on TENAA last week and features a design similar to the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Note 9 Pro Max. As you can see in the attached images, it features the same back panel design with the new square camera module that Xiaomi introduced with devices in the Redmi Note 9 series. This leads us to believe that this device could be the Redmi Note 9 or another Redmi Note series variant that may be launched soon.
The listing further reveals a few key details about the device, including that the device measures in at 162.3 x 77.2 x 8.9mm and weighs 198g, features a 6.53-inch FHD+ IPS display with a screen resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels and that it’s powered by a 4,920mAh battery. Additionally, we also learn that it will feature an octa-core SoC clocked at 2.0Ghz, coupled with up to 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of internal storage. As of now, we have no further information about the upcoming device, but since it has already received TENAA certification, we expect Xiaomi to release more information soon.

Update: To be called Redmi 10X 4G in China
The device with model number M2003J15SC was presumed to be released under the “Redmi Note 9” name and branding, owing to its similarities with the existing products in the Redmi Note 9 series. However, a product listing from China Telecom now confirms that the device will be called the Redmi 10X 4G.
If the name seems familiar to you, you’d recall that we revealed the name early last month, so it doesn’t come as a complete surprise.
The listing also mentions that the device will come with the MediaTek Helio G85 SoC, making it the first phone with this chip. Other details mentioned in the listing include the presence of a 3.5mm headphone jack, a 5,020 mAh battery, expandable memory, as well as a rear camera setup comprising of a 48MP sensor, 8MP sensor, and two 2MP sensors, and a 13MP front camera. It isn’t immediately clear where the “10X” part of the product branding comes into play, but we presume that it is referring to the digital zoom capabilities of the device.
