Nokia Media Streamer with 1080p streaming launched by Flipkart for ₹3,499

Android-based dedicated streaming devices are slowly gaining popularity in the Indian market. While Amazon has been dominating the segment for quite a while with its Fire TV sticks, more manufacturers are now entering the segment with their own Android-based solutions. Xiaomi launched its Android TV-powered Mi Box 4K in India earlier this year in May and followed that up with the new Mi TV Stick earlier this month. Now, Flipkart is joining the fray with a Nokia-branded Android streaming box called the Nokia Media Streamer.

The new Nokia Media Streamer is an Android 9.0-based streaming device that is capable of streaming content at full HD (1920x1080p) resolution. The device is powered by a quad-core processor, coupled with 1GB of RAM and 8GB RAM, and it features support for dual-band WiFi for better reception. The streaming box comes with Dolby Digital Audio and a voice-controlled remote with Google Assistant, which will allow users to control their TV using voice commands.

The Nokia Media Streamer is the first streaming device in the Indian market to feature a ZEE5 hotkey, that will give users access to over 100 TV channels from the streaming service. In a statement regarding the partnership with ZEE5, Manpreet Bumrah, VP – Business Development & Commercial at ZEE5 India, said, “We are glad to be a part of the technology integration offered by Flipkart for Nokia Media Streamer, that promises easier access and better convenience for consumers’ entertainment viewing experience. The Nokia Media Streamer has been priced at ₹3,499 (~$47) and it will be available for purchase on Flipkart starting from August 28th. The device will directly compete with the Mi Box 4K from Xiaomi, which is also priced at ₹3,499. Between the two, the Xiaomi Mi Box 4K seems to offer a better deal on paper as it offers 4K streaming capabilities. However, the Nokia brand value might give Flipkart’s streaming box a slight edge over the competition.
